Author’s Note: I realize that using the title
“London Calling” isn’t terribly original but it seems fitting to use this blog
to document my time in London while paying tribute to one of the best albums by
“The Only Band That Matters.”
Also, while you're paying attention (that's a leap of faith isn't it?), the links on any of these pages will not sign you up for discounted magazine subscriptions, catalogues of junk products or any other sort of sales gimmick. A Revision Already!
As usual, my inclination to be a “tweaker” (in the sense that I
am constantly re-editing and changing layouts and not in the crystal meth
sense) has me reorganizing this journal to be a) more user friendly and b)
allow me to contribute additional unstructured babbling about my trip. Since I am (obviously!) putting the interests of the readers first, I am hoping
you will put up with the self-serving motivation as well. I’ll leave it to others to ponder my true
objectives.
Another quick disclaimer: when recently reviewing my notes
(yes, I am actually planning this mess) I discovered that I am making a number
of assumptions about England and vast parts of Europe based on observations
made in a reasonably small portion of London.
It seems unfair to base an opinion on such a small sampling but this is
not a scientific journal, I’m not proving any sort of hypothesis and it’s all I
have to work with at this point. Since I
have neither the time nor the resources to do a broader sample, this will have to
do.
Of course, in encourage those of you who have visited England
and the couple of you who I know lived in England for extended periods to feel
free to add comments, experiences and (where relevant) corrections as you see
fit. You certainly won’t offend me in
any way and, since I moderate this site, I can always delete what you post!
